The design and manufacture of a metal component involves a multitude of decision points and will be influenced by considerations such as structural performance, weight, lead time, cost and aesthetics. It is understandable, therefore, that thoughts about how precisely that component is going to be manufactured are often left until the design is at a fairly … Read more
STAINLESS STEEL SA-351 CF8
CF8 is the cast equivalent of Type 304 Stainless Steel, part of a range of austenitic chromium-nickel alloys that provide good strength and ductility. They are also known as 18/8 stainless due to their chemical composition which includes approximately 18% chromium and 8% nickel by weight.
CF8 has good cavitation resistance, which is important for hydroturbines and pump impellers, and is used primarily for water handling. CF8 also provides resistance to strongly oxidising environments and corrosive media applications such as hydrocarbons, liquid oxygen, organic liquids, nitric acid, sodium carbonate, etc. Applications include architectural trim, valves and fittings, flanges, heating coils, mixing agitators and propellers, pumps, spray nozzles, etc.
