Non-Ferrous Alloy Specifications (Aluminium and Copper-based)

When the NovaCast foundry was created in Melksham over 40 years ago, the company’s sole focus was on the production of high quality non-ferrous castings mainly in aluminium and copper-based alloys using primarily sand casting and gravity die casting processes. These alloys still constitute the bulk of the castings that go through our UK foundry although the complexity and alloy specifications of the castings and the technology employed to ensure consistently high quality are dramatically different.

Although we have the capability to produce castings in virtually any aluminium or copper-based alloy, the bulk of our work is in the most common alloy grades. For Aluminium castings these alloy specifications are LM6M, LM25M and the fully heat-treated version, LM25TF. For copper-based castings these tend to be leaded gunmetal grades (LG2 and LG4), phosphor bronze (PB1 and PB2), and aluminium bronze (AB1 and AB2).

Ferrous Alloy Specifications (Iron and Carbon/Stainless Steels)

Over the years, NovaCast has established trusted relationships with other UK and international foundries in order to offer a comprehensive range of ferrous casting options. Each of these fully risk-managed relationships is quality controlled by the quality and project management teams at our UK foundry to ensure consistent quality and absolute peace of mind for our customers.

As with the non-ferrous alloys, the range of options is huge but the bulk of our ferrous castings tend to be in the most common carbon and stainless steel alloys using investment casting processes. For carbon steels, these alloy specifications are: SA216 WCB, SA216 WCC, SA352 LCC, EN10293 and EN10213. For stainless steels, these are the cast equivalents of 304 (the most common grade) and 304L (lower carbon version), 316 (with added molybdenum for better corrosion resistance) and 316L (the lower carbon version), and 332 C16 (a duplex stainless steel grade). We also deliver several cast iron grades including grey iron (.200 and .250), spheroidal graphite (420/12 and 600/3), hard iron (with nikel content) and white iron.

All ferrous and non-ferrous castings can be supplied in fully tested, machined and finished form to suit service demands and customer requirements. NovaCast is an ISO9001:2008 accredited company.
